Taking you on a film pub crawl!

In this article below, Flogas, an LPG supplier to British pubs, look at some hostelries that have appeared in some of our best-loved movies …

The Drowning Trout (real name: Zeitgeist @ The Jolly Gardeners)

Film: Snatch
Bullet Tooth Tony was at The Drowning Trout when threatened by replica firearms in Snatch. In reality, this pub is known as Zeitgeist at the Jolly Gardeners in Lambeth, South London, which is a Victorian bar with plenty of space and is the place to enjoy a selection of continental beers while watching live football games.
Address: 49-51 Black Prince Road, Lambeth, London, SE11 6AB

The Horse & Groom (The Beehive)

Film: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
Fancy finding out your best friend is an alien. Well, that’s what happened to Arthur while sitting inside The Horse & Groom in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
Back on planet Earth, The Horse & Groom is known as The Beehive and is in Buntingford. There, you can enjoy a drink without worrying that Earth is about to be destroyed because of a hyperspace express route.
Address: Buntingford, SG9 0DX

The Black Prince

Film: Kingsman: The Secret Service
At The Black Prince, a group of yobs were treated to a lesson in respect by super-spy Galahad in Kingsman: The Secret Service. There will very likely be a lot less trouble caused at the actual Black Prince in Kennington, though it still makes sense to be respectful to the staff and fellow punters — manners maketh the man, after all.
Address: 6 Black Prince Road, Kennington, London, SE11 6HS

The World’s End (The Gardener’s Arms)

Film: The World’s End
The end of the Golden Mile pub crawl culminates at The World’s End pub in the aptly named film The World’s End. You needn’t worry about the impending apocalypse when at The Gardener’s Arms in Letchworth Garden City, which was used as The World’s End in the comedy. Instead, you can look forward to a delicious carvery and as much ice cream as you can eat.
Address: Wilbury Hills Road, Letchworth Garden City, SG6 4LG

The Vic & Comet (real name: The Victoria Comet)

Film: Get Carter
There are any number of pubs in the Northeast of England, but Jack Carter headed to The Vic & Comet for a pint during the events of Get Carter. For a long time it was an O’Neill’s bar in Newcastle in real life. The establishment used to film scenes for Get Carter based at The Vic & Comet and is now known by the similarly titled The Victoria Comet. Be on the lookout for a variety of nods to the memorable revenge movie throughout the pub.
Address: 38 Neville Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 5DF

Somoan Joe’s (The Royal Oak)

Film: Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels
Rory Breaker famously caused chaos at Somoan Joe’s when another punter asked for the TV volume to be lowered in Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels. Watching the big game won’t be as tense at The Royal Oak which Somoan Joe’s was based on though, as the establishment is found in the middle of East End’s Columbia Road flower market and is the place to find so much high-quality food.
Address: 73 Columbia Road, London, E2 7RG

Millthorpe Working Men’s Club (Shiregreen Working Men’s Club)

Film: The Full Monty
The famous scantily-clad unemployed men of The Full Monty chose the Millthorpe Working Men’s Club as their venue of choice. While you won’t recognise the exterior of the club — this part of the film was shot elsewhere — it was inside Shiregreen Working Men’s Club where the stripping routine was recorded.
Address: 136 Shiregreen Lane, Sheffield, S5 6AD

People Missed How The Final Joke In JOKER Changes EVERYTHING

To say that Joker is a divisive movie would be an understatement. People are either loving the movie and praising Joaquin Phoenix’s performance as award-worthy, or they’re tearing it apart in editorials talking about the potentially problematic nature of the film. Whichever side of the coin you may fall on, one ... [Read More]

Audis history on the big and small screens

Throughout film history, the movies have featured plenty of famous vehicles.  But, the Audi – it has to be said – has featured prominently is some blockbusters.

Mission Impossible II

When it comes to Mission Impossible, let’s rewind back to the year 2000 and Mission: Impossible 2 to showcase how Audi has been featured in the hit movie series that has always starred Tom Cruise in the lead role of Ethan Hunt.
In the film, Hunt leads a mission to destroy deadly biological weapon and finds himself in a exhilarating car chase with international thief Nyah Nordoff-Hall. Hunt is behind the wheel of a Porsche Boxster and Nordoff-Hall tries to hold him off while driving an Audi TT — suffice to say that the pursuit between the two German-made cars into oncoming traffic is filled with nail-biting and edge-of-your-seat drama!

Marvel films

Arguable one of the most successful movie franchises ever to be created, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has films for everyone. There have been 20 films released already — the most recent being Ant-Man and the Wasp — and at least a dozen more in the pipeline.
Not only can you spot the ultimate superheroes in these films, but you may also be able to spot a stylish Audi too.
Did you know that there has actually been at least one Audi in every film in the Iron Man trilogy? A 2007 R8 and S5 B8 can be found in the first movie, a 2009 A8 LD3 and 2010 R8 Spyder are spotted in the sequel, and a 2012 S7 and R8 e-tron both feature in Iron Man 3. The R8 e-tron also turned up at a VIP screening of Iron Man 3 at London’s Leicester Square a few days before the movie’s general release!
But there were almost as many Audi cars featured in the three Iron Movies as there was in Captain America: Civil War! Within its two hours and 27 minutes runtime, you can see the 2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus, the 2017 SQ7, the 2017 A4, the 2016 A7 Sportback and even the Audi prologue concept car — a vehicle hailed as “a ‘signature car’ for Audi” by Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Board Member for Development at Audi.
There’s more to it, though. Be on the lookout for an Audi R8, A6 Hybrid and A3 as you watch the excitement unfold in Avengers: Age of Ultron, as well as an Audi TTS Roadster, R8 Spyder, Q7 and A8 during Spider-Man Homecoming — the first standalone film by our favourite web-slinger since he became involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Moving away from the Marvel Universe, the German brand is also spotted in other film adaptations of comic book heroes. An R8 Spyder features in Wolverine — the titular protagonist’s actor Hugh Jackman even turned up at the London Leicester Square premiere of the film in the same car — and an A8 plays a role in the 2015 big screen edition of Fantastic Four.

The Fifty Shades trilogy

Appearing in movie series is becoming a trend for Audi, with them also featuring in the Fifty Shades trilogy. The German manufacturer a presence in all three film adaptations of E.L. James’ novels which follow the relationship of business magnate Christian Grey and college graduate Anastasia Steele.
Why was this brand chosen over the other supercars? The brand’s multiple appearances came as a result of a partnership which was set up between Audi and Universal Pictures — a deal that Audi no doubt has relished seeing as though the movie series has grossed over $1 billion across the globe to date!
In Fifty Shades of Grey, the first film of the trilogy, viewers will be able to spot an Audi S8 D4, a 2017 S7 and a R8 Spyder. In the sequel Fifty Shades Darker, a set of Audi Q7 cars and an A3 took centre stage, with both the R8 and Q7 returning when the franchise wrapped up earlier this year with Fifty Shades Freed.

I, ROBOT

With I, ROBOT though, we’re taken to the future to see what Audi cars may potentially look like in years to come.
Called the Audi RSQ, this concept vehicle represented the first time that Audi had ever developed a car that was to be specifically used in a major Hollywood motion picture.
This future car boasted piloted driving which allowed Will Smith’s Chicago police detective character Del Spooner to press a button to enable the car to take control of the driving — no doubt an early vision of the autonomous driving concept that we are only just starting to see being trialled in real life.
Drivers of the RSQ are able to ride sideways and diagonal, while the use of balls instead of wheels was a quirky design touch. However, the typical single-frame grille and the presence of those four instantly recognisable silver rings let viewers clearly know that this car was without question an Audi.

Furious 7

How could we not give the Fast and Furious franchise a mention? After all, this is a series which features street racing, heists and espionage using all manners of vehicles and has so far spanned eight main series entries and two additional short films — grossing in excess of $5 billion to date!
This series is so popular with its fans, in fact, that a spin-off movie called Hobbs & Shaw is due for release in 2019 and there’s now even a worldwide live show titled Fast & Furious Live, which includes stunt driving, projection mapping and pyrotechnics.
Focusing on Furious 7 now — a movie that clutched at the heartstrings as it was the final one to feature an appearance by series regular Paul Walker due to the actor being killed while the movie was still being filmed — is where you can see Audi appearing in the franchise.
The model of the Audi R8 appears when it competes in an exciting quarter mile race against a classic Plymouth Barracuda in the early moments of the film.
This article was put together by Vindis, a UK dealer offering Audi servicing.

Review: Joker Is So Crazy It Makes Sense

“Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, ... [Read More]
